'John Lewis' ad created by student fools the internet

The much-anticipated John Lewis Christmas ad has failed to materialise so far but many people thought it had after a UK A-level student posted some coursework online.

The fake John lewis ad has had almost half a million YouTube views

As people searched for the John lewis ad, a software engineering student’s animated video clocked up almost half a million YouTube views at the weekend, despite being clearly labelled as a coursework project.

The video had originally been uploaded back in June but went under the radar until the volume of searches for the John Lewis ad picked up in recent days.

The 90-second animation by Nick Jablonka features a lonely snowman trapped in a snow shaker dreaming of finding his soulmate in the outside world, which he eventually does just before Christmas Day. It ends with the words “Appreciate the moments.”

Jablonka later posted on YouTube that he had not been planning to post the video originally and that despite all the positive comments he received, he believes “this piece could do with a lot of work as it was done in around two weeks from start to finish.”
