As part of the partnership Asics will provide the 800-strong Australian team of athletes and officials with sports competition and training apparel, leisure wear and footwear for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad being held in Tokyo in 2020. The company will also supply apparel for Australia’s team for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina this October.

“ASICS will play an important role in providing uniforms for our future Olympic Teams and it seems even more fitting that Australia will represent a brand that was founded by the host nation, Japan,” said AOC CEO Matt Carroll in a release. “I am sure our athletes will be proud to wear ASICS as they represent Australian on the Olympic stage.”

“We are excited and honoured to join the AOC family as the new footwear and apparel partner,” commented Asics Oceania Managing Director Mark Brunton. “The ASICS philosophy of achieving a sound mind in a sound body through sport is a natural extension of the Olympic ideal that participation is more important than winning.”

Founded in 1949 and currently headquartered in Kobe, Japan, Asics describes its aim as to “create quality lifestyle through intelligent sport technology”.

The announcement of the partnership was made by AOC President John Coates at the organisation’s annual general meeting.
