British retailer Debenhams is strengthening its senior management team with the appointment of two new executive directors. Sally Hyndman will join as HR director and Angela Morrison as technology and supply chain director.

The appointments come shortly after CEO Sergio Bucher unveiled plans to streamline the business and redefine its direction as part of his new strategy, titled Debenhams Redesigned. With a strong digital focus and an aim to become the ‘social shopping’ leader, the business said the new HR and technology directors will play vital roles in delivering the new strategy.

Bucher said of the appointments: “[They] bring a wealth of experience as we enter an important period of transformation for the business. They will be key change-makers guiding the implementation of our new strategy by delivering our people agenda and an improved digital proposition amongst other tasks.”

Hyndman’s career spans positions including Group HR Director at Dixons Carphone PLC, HR Director at Ask Restaurants and work within Strategy and Change at M&S during a period of rapid business transformation.

Morrison’s background includes roles as Chief Information Officer at Direct Line Group and IT Director for J Sainsbury plc where she sat on the Operating Board, as well as positions at Walmart and Asda.

Hyndman replaces Nikki Zamblera, who leaves the business after 12 years of service, while Morrison takes over from Peter Swann, who is leaving Debenhams to take up the role of operating director at WH Smith.
