After releasing a proudly feminist t-shirt in its last runway collection, Dior is continuing its girl power initiative by inviting nine female photographers to photograph the house’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection. This project the first solo campaign by the brand's new creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s.

#TheWomenBehindTheLens campaign invited nine female photographers from around the world to create their own images from Dior’s Spring-Summer collection. Images range from campaign images to backstage images to more conceptual product shots.

Each of the nine photographers — including Janette Beckman, Maripol, Brigitte Lacombe, and Brigitte Niedermair — sat down for a video interview with the brand. The conversational videos ask each artist how they interpreted and approached Chiuri's design and why it is important to celebrate female talent.

The first of the series to launch was Brigitte Lacombe’s set of images. Lacombe shot the advertising campaign for the Spring/Summer 2017 collection, tapping twins Ruth and May Bell to don the collection’s signature pieces in a studio setting.

Maripol, who has worked with everyone from Madonna to Keith Haring, went backstage at the Dior runway show to shoot her signature polaroid portraits of models and other brand personalities.

Famed documentary photographer Janette Beckman chose to capture the chaos and excitement of the runway show in her signature documentary format. Brigitte Niederman interpreted the pieces by capturing close-up images of the intricate detailing of Chiuri’s work.
