US health and fitness wearables brand Fitbit has announced the launch of an improved version of its most successful activity bracelet, the Charge 3 model. It now features a more attractive design, it is submersible up to a depth of 50 metres and is equipped with a battery that lasts up to a week.

These new features will make the Fitbit Charge 3, which will be available in October, the smartest Fitbit bracelet to date, with more than 15 exercise modes and new digital capabilities that allow users to be constantly connected.

The new version adds to the Fitbit Charge family, with more than 35 million devices sold worldwide. The Charge 3 is "a revolution,” incorporating “the most advanced sensors in an ultra-thin, comfortable and premium-quality design," according to the co-founder and CEO of Fitbit, James Park.

"We are committed to offering our millions of users a wide variety of options from which to choose (...), enabling us to continue to expand our market share in the global wearables arena," added James Park.

The Charge 3 is manufactured with lightweight, high-quality materials, such as anodized aluminium, the same material used in the aerospace industry, and its OLED touch screen is almost 40% larger and brighter than in the previous version, allowing for a more intuitive user experience.

The Charge 3 relies on Fitbit’s extensive research to improve its proprietary 'PurePulse’ heart rate monitoring technology, and can also estimate changes in blood oxygen levels and help track new health indicators, such as those for sleep apnoea or female health.

Among the new model’s functions there are 15 exercise modes such as cycling, swimming, running, weight training and yoga, including calories burned, duration or distance travelled indicators and real-time statistics, so that users can track their progress and celebrate reaching their targets.

The Charge 3’s wristband comes in three customizable versions, including one in Horween leather. The Charge 3 special edition features instead a white silicone wristband with a graphite-coloured aluminium case, or a textile wristband in lavender colour with an aluminium and rose gold case.
