Instagram reaches 1m active advertisers

Instagram announced that it has hit a major milestone.  The photo sharing app has reached one million active advertisers, compared with 200 thousand this time last year.  Over 600 million people have Instagram accounts worldwide.

Instagram has become increasingly popular for businesses, who post information about their products, or brands on the platform, and use the platform to connect with customers or get discovered by new ones.  Facebook, which owns Instagram, has been developing ways for businesses to better use Instagram to grow.  

“With 80% of people following a business account, and a global community of over 600M, Instagrammers want to explore and find new things from brands they love and businesses want more opportunities to build relationships with these valuable customers,” the company said in a blog post.

Instagram announced that it will help business convert posts into sales, and connect in more meaningful ways with their customers, and has been testing a shoppable version of the app with Kate Spade for the past few months.

This capability will now roll out to more apparel, jewelry or beauty products. Additionally, a new booking feature will allow customers to connect with salons and book appointments through the app. To help businesses track their reach,  Instagram will be launching various analytics capabilities that measure the efficacy of their Instagram posts, and stories.
