Fast Retailing’s Uniqlo chain has had a strong August in its domestic market with like-for-like sales up by a healthy 8.8% year-on-year when online was included. But they were also up by an almost-as-pleasing 7.4% in physical stores only. And the company said that total sales, with the webstore included, managed to rise as much as 9.1%.

Those are certainly impressive figures with so many rival chain struggling in the latest month. But Uniqlo said that it was bolstered by the “consistently hot weather [that] fuelled strong sales across [its] summer ranges.”

It’s good news at a time when the company is expanding globally. It opened its first Swedish store (in Stockholm) this month, as well as ramping up its presence in the Canadian market with an almost-doubling of the size of its chain there. And it’s also planning a debut in Vietnam next year in a 75:25 joint venture with Mitsubishi Corporation.

The company is also working on the opening if its first store in Bali this year, with a 2,000 sq m location at Mal Bali Galeria in the heart of Kuta city centre on Bali island. Uniqlo has been in Indonesia since 2013 and currently has 18 stores located across Jakarta and five other major cities.
