Carl Gustav Fabergé's precious eggs, in enamel and engraved gold, have enjoyed worldwide renown for 150 years, travelling from the tsars' luxurious courts to present-day auctions, where collectors are buying them for record amounts. They have been exhibited the world over, and this year it is the turn of Qatar's capital Doha.

We are talking about the precious Easter eggs created by Carl Gustav Fabergé, the Russian-German goldsmith and jeweller who produced his engraved enamel masterpieces using the cloisonné technique. He worked for the Russian tsars' court from the mid-XIXth century to 1917.

He was born in St. Petersburg on 30th May 1846, 170 years ago, and died in Lausanne on 24th September 1920. His brand is still highly attractive to this day, and produces modern jewellery and watch-making masterpieces.

Fabergé's precious antique eggs were manufactured exclusively for tsarinas and dowager empresses in the St. Petersburg factory, and have been exhibited in the world's major museums.
