The black and white photographs of half-dressed models have made way for colour and clothes. After altering the Celine logo by removing its accent, starting again from scratch on Instagram and repositioning the image of the LVMH group-owned label towards a more minimalist look with an underground edge, Hedi Slimane is pusuing his project with a campaign centred on the collection that made its runway debut in Paris in March.

With her tomboyish, rebel-bourgeois look, natural hair and makeup, American model Marland Backus embodies the new Celine woman as defined by Hedi Slimane for the Autumn/ Winter 2019-2020 season, updating the Céline of the 1970s and notably dusting off its wide-legged culottes.

The model is captured face-on, standing and sitting on a stool before the lens, sometimes in monochrome, others in the autumnal colours of the collection. In an oversize tweed vest; blouse; jeans and thigh-high leather boots, or in a sheepskin coat with a Lavallière blouse; or dressed in a leather jacket, black trousers, white socks and mocassins; or even with a bare midriff under a soft, long-pile mohair sweater.
