One of the biggest shopping centres in the word, Mall of Qatar, held its 'soft opening' last Saturday, December 10, which attracted some 100,000 visitors through its doors.

Developed by Qatar-based firm UrbaCon, Doha's new shopping concept boasts 500,000 square metres of retail space with 220 stores taking up shop inside. Better still, the mall is 99 percent leased, with 92 percent currently in the fit-out phase, said officials at the opening.

"I'm pleased to see the Mall of Qatar running successfully after lots of great efforts and work from varied parties to make it happen," said Moataz al-Khayyat, CEO of UrbaCon.

Once fully operational, the retail hub will house over 500 shops including 100 eateries. International brands already confirmed for mall include Adidas, Abercrombie & Fitch, Escada and Gant, among many others.
The Mall of Qatar will showcase the world’s first resident troupe, featuring entertainment throughout the centre.

There will be 52 weeks of shows on a 360-degree custom designed revolving stage, as well as a multilevel family entertainment complex.

The mall will also feature a 19-screen Cineplex inclusive of IMAX’s revolutionary laser projection and 12 channel immersive sound system on the region’s largest screen.

The cinema will also feature the latest 4D projection technology screen, 7 VIP screens, an 8-lane bowling alley, and in-theatre gourmet food services.
