Supreme to shut the doors of original NYC store

Supreme is set to close its flagship store at 274 Lafayette Street, with the cult streetwear brand announcing the space is up for lease.

The move marks an end to Supreme’s original location just months after the brand celebrated the 25 anniversary of its opening.

The 190 Bowery store will be the company’s new main flagship shop in the city.

The closure was confirmed by Supreme to Hypebeast after ‘Space for Lease’ signs appeared on the windows of the shop earlier this week.

Supreme announced in February that its Lafayette shop would undergo renovations, and the label opened the 190 Bowery space as a temporary store.

Fans of the fashion brand’s original location will remember this is where Supreme sold its first t-shirt designs back in 1994. The space has become an integral part of the city’s streetwear community, with many queuing outside for hours to get their hands on the brand’s latest merch.

Supreme also has stores in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, London and Paris, as well as several locations in Japan. A further shop is set to open in San Francisco soon.
