Ted Baker has a lot on its plate at present as it prepares to become part of Authentic Brands Group and also deals with the tough economic backdrop. But it’s business-as-usual as far as its store expansion plan is concerned. The company has signed up for space at the giant Merry Hill mall.

Mall operator Sovereign Centros announced the signing at the former Intu-owned property that’s one of the top 10 retail and leisure destinations in the UK. It said the store will open later this year.

The brand will take a 2,500 sq ft space that will stock its full range of womenswear, menswear, footwear and accessories. It’s to be located on the upper level between jewellers Goldsmiths and Beaverbrooks, the latter having recently committed to a significant upsize at Merry Hill. The Ted Baker store will be only its second full-price location in the Midlands.

The mall has signed up a number of key “aspirational” labels recently and said it’s establishing a “premium fashion zone” on its upper level, bolstered by the recent openings of a 2,000 sq ft Kurt Geiger and 1,600 sq ft Dune, as well as the renewal of Superdry’s 10,000 sq ft store.

Graeme Jones, Director at Sovereign Centros, said: “The signing of Ted Baker to Merry Hill is a great moment for the destination, and is yet another premium brand to commit. Positioned alongside the likes of Kurt Geiger, Dune and a soon-to-be-upsized Beaverbrooks, this is another vote of confidence in Merry Hill that reinforces its position as one of the leading destinations in the UK.”
